Thanks to the generous donation from Robert Caruth and his late wife, Tracy, Lone Oak ISD is excited to announce the construction of our new Animal Science Center. This facility, which has already broken ground, will provide incredible opportunities for our FFA students, many of whom wouldn’t have access to such experiences without it.
FFA and Livestock Projects
FFA is more than just farming—it's about teaching students leadership, responsibility, and work ethic. From leadership roles to competing in development events, our FFA members thrive while learning valuable life skills. Students as young as 3rd grade can join Junior FFA and start showing livestock. However, without district-provided facilities, many of our students wouldn’t have the ability to care for animals at home. Livestock projects teach money management, animal care, and provide financial benefits. Our students earned over $34,000 in animal sales just last spring at the Hunt County Fair!
The New Animal Science Center
The new facility, located next to our current Ag barn which is outfitted for larger animals, will be tailored to smaller livestock. A show arena will be constructed between the two buildings, allowing for expanded hosting opportunities potentially generating additional funds to put back into the program. The current barn will also undergo updates, including the addition of bathrooms, enhancing its functionality.
A key focus of the new Animal Science Center is that it can serve as a classroom space, not just a place for housing animals. This will enable more hands-on learning and increase student participation in livestock projects. With improved feeding, exercise programs, and a new show arena, the quality of our livestock and the opportunities for hosting shows will expand, benefiting the program as a whole.
Without the Caruth family’s generosity, none of this would be possible, and our students could miss out on valuable experiences that shape their futures. We are grateful for their support and excited for what’s ahead.
